Date night. How many of you remember getting ready for your date, especially the first one? As for me, I would put on my best jeans and shirt, grab my hat and head out with hope in my heart that this would be the one. Well, it took a few years but I found the woman of my dreams and we are happily married. Looking back I keep asking myself if I approach God like that. Do I look to my time with Him as if I was going on that first date or do I just put on my old sweats and forget to brush my teeth?
Romans 12:2 tells us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” It is only when we approach God with the attitude of that first date that we can be transformed by the renewing of our mind. God not only wants to be our first love. He expects to be our first love.
I love my wife but in my life she will always be second only to Jesus. One of my favorite pastors, Henry Wright, once said, “There is no person smart enough, rich enough or pretty enough that is worth your salvation.” This is the attitude that we must have in our life. Yes, that first date is amazing and we all have hope that it leads to true love; however, it is only when we look at our relationship with Jesus like this that we can be truly happy.
The question today is, “What attitude will you have to spend one day with Jesus?” As we go throughout our lives, let’s put God first and allow everything else will follow.
