Over the past few posts I have asked the question, “What would you do to spend one day with Jesus?” Well, today I want to change the question and ask you, “What would you give up to spend one day with Jesus?” Luke 21:1-4 tells us, “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. He also saw a certain poor widow putting in two mites.” Then He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
Too often we spend our day giving Jesus spare change. What He really wants is our all. As we go throughout our day, we should be giving our best to Him: the best of our time – not just five or ten minutes a day in prayer. He wants the best of work. The way we do our jobs testify of Him. We live in a world where mediocrity is the standard. Jesus expects us to live a life where we take pride in our craftsmanship and give our first fruits to Him. So many people just put in their time, do the minimum that’s required of them, cut corners and just get by putting forth as little effort as possible. The sad part is that this includes their time with Him.
If you want to be blessed by God, you need to put forth your best and put in your two mites. That is what God wants from each of us. If you are a worker, put in the extra effort and make your boss look good. If you are a supervisor, set your employees up for success. Then you and those around you can be blessed.
Take a stand. Tell Jesus and those around you that you are a Christian and you are eagerly awaiting His return. Take pride in your work and decide to do more than expected of you. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:41, “If someone demands that you go one mile, go with him two miles.” Exceed what is expected of you and watch God’s blessings rain down. Then you will be with Jesus not just one day but every day of your life!
