“Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.” II Timothy 1:8
Whoever thought that being a good Christian meant you needed a Facebook account? Then every day you needed to post a nice picture with a few inspiring words, tell all your Facebook friends (most of whom you probably do not even know in the real world) how much you love Jesus and then you were good until the next day?
This is something I have been thinking about a lot these past few weeks. As you can imagine most of my friends are Christians. Every day I see posts telling me something like, ‘If you love Jesus, share this post.’ or ‘Type AMEN if you love Jesus!’ It seems like Facebook has replaced the old bumper sticker that said ‘Honk if you love Jesus.’ Is this all there is to being a good Christian?
When I think about this question, I am reminded of the last part of II Timothy 1:8,“…but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.” If all we are doing is sitting at home and sharing Facebook posts, are we doing as this verse says? No! We need to be out in the world and sharing Jesus with everyone we meet. Will we be ignored? Will we be persecuted for our faith? Yes, at times, but this is what we are called to do and I believe it is only when we pick up our crosses can we be called Christians.
Do not stop sharing those posts but go out and show people that you love Jesus as well.
My question today is, “Are you willing to pick up your cross to spend one day with Jesus?”
