I have heard people say, “We need to observe Jesus’ actions and be like Him.” I do believe this is a true statement but I think that it goes a little further than that. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” This is the real secret about becoming a Christian. You cannot be the same person you were before.
A few years ago I was watching a movie about a man who had been blind from early childhood. When he was in his 30’s, he underwent surgery and was given the gift of sight. He soon found out that having the physical capacity for sight is not the same as seeing.
You see his first experience with sight was confusing. He was able to make out colors and movements but arranging them into a coherent picture was more difficult. Over time he learned to identify various objects but his habits and his behavior were still those of a blind man.
The real issue was that he had to die as a blind person to be born again as a seeing person. Christians, just like this man, cannot live their old life because we are now a different person. To truly see Jesus and His truth means more than observing what he did or said. It means a change of identity.
My question today is, “Are you willing to change to spend one day with Jesus?”
